Description
hand-coloured wood engraving view from ‘La Ilustracion Española y Americana’.
This engraving records the devastation wrought by the 1880 Luzon earthquakes, depicting the ruined bell tower of Manila Cathedral in Intramuros. The tower had survived the catastrophic Manila earthquake of 1863, which destroyed much of the city and claimed hundreds of lives, only to be severely damaged during the powerful seismic events of July 1880.
