Description

full green cloth, (with original-outline colour on Bohol and Leyte) multi-folded (as issued) 1892 reprint of the 1744 Murillo map : pp. 1009, XVI, 1 page with the coat of arms of Manila at the end. EXTREMELY RARE.

Although published in 1892 this work was undertaken by Delgado in Guiguan in 1751 and finished June 6, 1754. The author borrowed heavily from San Antonio’s Cronicas but added a lot of his own. These seem to be a copy of the original manuscript in the Jesuit archives in Manila. Delgado was born in Cadiz ca. 1690 and went to the Philippines in 1711. Volume 1 of the “Historia de Filipinas”.

Condition

faded spine with gilt and red embossing, marbled front and end covers; pencil writing by an old hand and dirt spots with small crude tape on pre-title page, pencil markings on title page; with restorations and small paper loss in a blank image spot, expertly paper-underlaid on multi-folded 1892 reprint of the 1744 Murillo map; pp. 1009, XVI, 1 page with the coat of arms of Manila at the end, expertly restored paper loss. Still a very good, solid and tight copy.
