original-colour lithograph, verso: The “Schöner Map”. Ferdinand Magellan’s (1480-1521) ship ‘Victoria’. Magellan led the first voyage of circumnavigation (1519-1522). He was killed by natives in the Philippines and the ‘Victoria’ was taken back to Spain by the last surviving captain in the expedition, Elcano, who completed the circumnavigation.
