hand-coloured engraving view from ‘Cronica de las Islas Filipinas’. RARE.

Known during the 19th century as the Puente de España, it was the city’s most important crossing and the direct predecessor of present-day Jones Bridge.
The scene captures the bustling river traffic that characterised colonial Manila, where commerce, transport and daily life revolved around the waterways of the capital.
