The first colour version of this print appeared as a supplement to the Illustrated Australian News, lithographed by William Dickes, after a painting by Nicholas Chevalier who in 1867 joined the Duke of Edinburgh’s tour and left Australia in 1869. He exhibited paintings of his one-year tours of Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines among others, in London in 1872.
