Description
letterpress; verso = Spanish text.
Map from Miguel Seguí’s renowed Enciclopedia Ilustrada Seguí, by Centro Editorial Artistico in Barcelona. From 1897 to 1907, Centro Editorial Artistico published the art and literary magazine Album Salon…, the first Spanish magazine illustrated in colour, and from 1909, the Enciclopedia Ilustrada Segui.
Spanning the narrow western coast of Panay Island, this vertical map details the linear settlement patterns bounded by the central mountain range and the Sulu Sea (Mar de Joló). It exemplifies the detailed provincial cartography adapted from late 19th century Spanish colonial mapping projects.
