Description

RARE hand-coloured copper engraving map from “Recueil des voyages….” vol. 8, p. 105; 2nd French edition.

Re-edition of the second edition of Renneville’s translation of Commelin’s ‘Begin ende Voortgangh’ published by Jean- Baptiste Machuel jr. in Rouen. The same map is included in Desbordes’ French translation of “Conquista de las Islas Malucas” [The Discovery and Conquest of the Molucco and Philippine Islands] written at the request of the president of the Conselho de Indias de Espanha (Indian Council of Spain) originally published in Madrid in 1609.

Buton Island is a small island in the Flores Sea near Celebes.
