An extensive summary of the complete contents of the meetings by the renowned Academy of Sciences, including contributions by von Hochstetter: letter to Alexander von Humboldt, von Wuellersdorf-Urbair und M.F. Maury (pp143-182). During 1857-59, the Frigate ‘Novara’ circumnavigated the world under Commodore B. v. Wuellerstorf-Urbair. This voyage to the Pacific incl. Indonesia and the Philippines, to South America, Australia and NZ, was the only official Austrian scientific expedition ever around the world and considered the last great scientific expedition of the 19th century, It was supported by the Deutsche Bund.Dr. Karl von Scherzer was appointed as one of the naturalists, von Hochstetter as the geologist.
