Refers to the Spanish-American War of 1898. The peace negotiations lasted from Oct 1 to Dec 10, 1898, resulting in the Treaty of Paris which was approved in 1899, giving America ontrol over Guam, the Philippine Islands, and Puerto Rico with Cuba gaining independence from Spain.
