EXTREMELY RARE map from ‘Het Leven apostolycke deughden, gheduerighe mirakelen, ende glorie vanden H. Franciscus Xaverius’ [The Life and Apostologic Dedication, the Miracles and the Glory of Francis Xavier] by Philippe François Taisne in Antwerp. Rare map of India, Southeast Asia and the Philippines, illustrating the travels of the earliest Jesuit Missionaries.
Taisne (1627-1691) was a Jesuit teacher, and a military chaplain. Bouttats, who also engraved the other two maps in the book, of Southeast Asia, and Europe to Japan, had two brothers, Gaspar and Gerard, and twelve children, nieces and nephews, who were also engravers.
