Description
hand-coloured copper engraving map from his ‘Atlas Minor’. A German emigre who came to London about 1680 & worked there as an engraver, later setting up his own business & becoming, after the turn of the century, the foremost map publisher in England. His work covered a wide range of loose maps of all parts of the world, varying from miniatures to very decorative large maps as well as atlases. His work also enjoyed a very high reputation & much of it was copied by other publishers, of which he was fully aware.
