Description
hand-coloured copper engraving.
A very curious map with a strange depiction of Mindanao as 3 islands including the imaginary St. John Island. Apparently closely copied from an earlier manuscript by the famous VOC cartographer, Johannes Vingboons (1650 – 70). From ‘Oud en Nieuw Oost-Indien’. This map centres on the Dutch Spice Islands and their importance. It shows rhumb lines and a compass rose.
